Technical Writer – Remote Contract Work

We’re looking for a Technical Writer who can bring clarity, structure, and precision to a wide range of technical communications. From research reports and operational procedures to technical guides and documentation, you’ll work with subject matter experts to strengthen content, improve readability, and ensure that information is communicated clearly and effectively to its intended audience.

Location: Fully remote, work from anywhere.

What you’ll do:

Provide editorial support on a wide variety of materials, including technical guides, standard operating procedures, research reports, and other technical documents. Distill complex data into content that is accurate, clear, professional, and appropriate for the audience. Fact-check content and ensure accuracy. Demonstrate strong editing skills, including line editing, copy editing, proofreading, and applying clear language. Correct issues with content structure, grammar, spelling, accuracy, style, readability, and consistency. Collaborate with team members and subject matter experts to develop and deliver high-quality work. Ensure all work is consistent with established guidelines and maintain editorial standards.

Skills/background needed:

Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, or a related field. Professional experience in technical writing, technical documentation, editing, copy editing, and/or substantive editing of technical information. Excellent command of grammar, syntax, usage, punctuation, and editorial conventions, with exceptional attention to detail. Strong editorial judgment and the ability to identify and resolve issues in complex technical content. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Experience with PDF and document production tools. Ability to collaborate effectively with subject matter experts, project staff, and team members. Ability to understand technical concepts quickly and communicate them clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

Preferred: Experience with accessibility standards, reference checking, fact-checking, copyright compliance, and publication quality assurance. Experience managing documents through the complete editorial and publication lifecycle. Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and collaboration tools used in technical workflows. Experience editing engineering, research, or scientific documentation.
