We are a small nonprofit organisation focused on making government and policy topics accessible and engaging to everyday people. We create social media content about issues that directly affect communities—cost of living, public services, privacy rights, and more.
In this volunteer role, you’ll create social media posts designed to stop the scroll and encourage sharing. You’ll work across multiple platforms including Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and Bluesky, adapting the same core story so each post feels natural to its platform.
What you’ll do:
• Source compelling images and visuals from freely available resources
• Write clear, engaging copy that resonates with your audience
• Adapt content across different social platforms so posts feel platform-appropriate, not repetitive
• Work collaboratively—all posts are reviewed before publication
• Learn best practices in social media strategy and community engagement
About you:
No prior social media experience is required. You should be comfortable with basic platforms like Instagram and Twitter, and willing to learn new tools. Most importantly, you understand what makes people stop scrolling and actually engage with content. You can write clearly, think creatively, and collaborate well with a small team.
Rate: Volunteer (unpaid). School credit may be available depending on your institution. This role has the potential to transition to a paid position based on performance and organisational needs.
Contract length: 8–12 weeks, with 8–12 hours per week expected.
Location: Fully remote—work from anywhere with an internet connection.
Skills/background needed:
• Comfort using social media platforms (Instagram, X, LinkedIn, or similar)
• Ability to write clear, engaging copy for different audiences
• Basic visual literacy—knowing what makes an image compelling
• Attention to detail and ability to follow editorial guidelines
• Collaborative mindset and openness to feedback
• Reliable internet connection and ability to meet weekly commitments
Experience with design tools is not required. Full training and guidance will be provided as you onboard.
