We’re looking for a part-time local reporter to help tell the stories of our community and the people who call it home.
For this position, being local matters. We’re specifically looking for someone who lives in the area or very close by and is familiar with local communities and the surrounding region.
You’ll help cover the local news that matters most to readers — city government, schools, businesses, community events, agriculture, human-interest stories and the people and organizations making a difference throughout the area.
What You’ll Do
Write local news and feature stories for print and digital publications
Cover city councils, school boards and other local government meetings
Report on local schools, businesses and community organizations
Attend community events and meetings
Interview residents, business owners and community leaders
Take photos to accompany stories
Find interesting stories about the people and places in your community
Help ensure your community continues to have strong, dependable local news coverage
Who We’re Looking For
Previous newspaper or journalism experience is a plus, but it is not required. We are willing to provide full training to the right candidate.
More importantly, we want someone who is curious, dependable, comfortable talking with people and genuinely interested in local news. Strong writing and communication skills are important, along with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Because this is a local reporting position, you must live in the area or within a reasonable driving distance of the communities we cover.
This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling. If you enjoy meeting people, asking questions and telling the stories happening in your own community, we would love to hear from you.
Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.
Contract length: Part-time, ongoing
