Status: Full-time
Schedule: Monday to Friday, flexible hours with occasional evening or weekend availability
Contract length: Permanent
Location: Fully remote – work from home
About the Role:
This Communications Writer role offers the chance to shape how an organization communicates with employees, partners, and the wider community. You’ll be a storyteller at heart – someone who takes complex information and makes it clear, engaging, and meaningful.
Working with the communications team, you’ll write and edit across multiple channels: employee newsletters, announcements, social media posts, press releases, website content, and more. You’ll help tell the organization’s story, strengthen connections across teams, and support both day-to-day communications and special projects like events and campaigns.
This role combines variety with purpose. You’ll write for different audiences, collaborate across departments, and see your work make a real impact – all from the flexibility of working from home.
What You’ll Do:
Internal Communications
Draft and edit organization-wide announcements, newsletters, leadership messages, presentations, talking points, and guidance documents.
Partner with team leaders to communicate employee updates, leadership changes, and sensitive information with clarity and empathy.
Support executive communications, including speeches, presentations, and briefing materials.
Help translate complex organizational changes into clear guidance that employees can understand and act on.
Track how people respond to communications and use that feedback to improve future messages.
External Communications and Public Relations
Develop news stories, website content, press releases, media pitches, thought leadership articles, and social media posts.
Support communications plans for major announcements, new programs, partnerships, and organizational events.
Assist with media outreach, journalist requests, interview preparation, and maintaining media relationships.
Ensure all external communications are accurate, consistent, and aligned with organizational messages.
Communications During Challenging Times
Support the development of clear, timely, and empathetic communications when issues or crises arise.
Help create talking points, stakeholder messages, and guidance documents during sensitive situations.
Handle confidential information with discretion and good judgment.
Events and Projects
Support communications for organizational events, including promotional content, scripts, and materials.
Manage editorial calendars, templates, and shared resources to keep projects organized.
Skills and Background You’ll Need:
Strong writing and editing skills – you can write clearly and confidently across different formats (emails, newsletters, press releases, articles, social media posts, speeches).
Ability to take complex or technical information and explain it in a way anyone can understand.
Comfort reaching out to journalists, managing media relationships, and preparing people for interviews.
Experience with internal communications, external communications, or both – or a strong portfolio showing your writing across different channels.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and pay attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Curious, creative mindset – you enjoy brainstorming ideas and thinking outside the box.
Good judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.
A sense of humor and genuine interest in the organization’s mission.
Nice to Have:
Experience supporting organizational change or change management.
Experience with a CRM system or marketing platform.
Experience developing web content.
Event communications experience.
Experience living or working abroad.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or a related field – or relevant work experience that demonstrates your writing and communications skills.
Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application
Benefits: Full-time eligible roles include health coverage, retirement benefits, and paid time off.
