Content Writer & Communications Assistant – Entry Level, Full Time

About the role:

This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone interested in communications, content creation, and digital marketing. You’ll support a team with a range of writing and communications tasks, including social media content, newsletters, website updates, and event promotion. You’ll work closely with experienced communicators who will mentor and guide you as you build your skills. No prior professional experience is required—we provide full training on all tools and processes.

What you’ll do:

Content Creation and Storytelling

• Create engaging posts and captions for social media platforms
• Take photos and videos at events and activities
• Edit short-form videos and promotional clips
• Write captions, newsletter content, blog posts, and website text
• Help develop stories about client success and team members
• Support annual reports and other organizational publications
• Assist with basic photo and video editing for team communications

Social Media and Digital Communications

• Schedule and publish social media content
• Monitor comments and interactions on social channels
• Track performance metrics for social media and email campaigns
• Support digital awareness campaigns
• Help create and send email newsletters
• Keep the content calendar updated and organized

Internal Communications

• Help create employee newsletters and internal updates
• Assist with staff recognition materials
• Coordinate communications across departments
• Maintain internal communication resources

External Communications

• Help write and distribute newsletters and email updates
• Draft community announcements and agency updates
• Support outreach to community partners and stakeholders
• Help manage email lists and track engagement
• Promote programs and events through email and digital channels

Events and Community Engagement

• Attend events and community activities
• Capture photos and videos at events
• Help promote events through communications channels
• Support community awareness campaigns
• Represent the organization at community events when needed

Brand Management and Design

• Create flyers, brochures, and marketing materials
• Help maintain consistent branding across all communications
• Organize digital assets and templates
• Assist with basic graphic design tasks

Website and Administrative Support

• Help update and maintain the website
• Organize communication files and digital resources
• Gather content, photos, and updates from team members
• Support other departments with promotional materials

Skills/background needed:

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field is preferred but not required
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Ability to organize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Comfortable learning new software and tools
• Collaborative attitude and willingness to support a team

Preferred (but we’ll train you):

• Experience with Canva, Microsoft Office, or WordPress
• Basic video editing experience
• Photography or videography skills
• Social media or email marketing experience

Working conditions:

• Work in an office setting and out in the community
• This position involves some field work and local travel between locations
• You’ll spend approximately 50% of your time driving to events and community activities
• A personal vehicle is required for business travel
• You’ll spend the other 50% in the office working on content and communications
• Occasional noise in the office environment
• Regular computer work and office tasks

Physical requirements:

• Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a desk
• Ability to move around the office to access files and equipment
• Ability to drive regularly
• Able to occasionally lift and carry boxes or equipment up to 50 lbs
• Comfortable using computers and office equipment
