About the Role
We are hiring court reporters to record and transcribe spoken proceedings in a professional court environment. You will create accurate, verbatim written records of court hearings and trials, working closely with judges, legal professionals, and court staff.
This is an entry-level position. Full training and support will be provided as you develop your skills in this essential legal role.
What You’ll Do
• Record verbatim minutes of all court proceedings using stenographic or voice reporting methods
• Read back portions of court proceedings when instructed by the judge
• Identify speakers accurately and note the introduction of exhibits and evidence
• Prepare transcriptions in proper legal format
• Meet court-set deadlines for all transcriptions
• Attend staff meetings, workshops, and continuing education opportunities
• Represent the court with professionalism, courtesy, and discretion in all interactions
Skills/Background Needed
• Completion of high school or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited court reporting school programme
• Ability to take dictation at 220 words per minute
• Typing speed of 50 words per minute
• Strong spelling, grammar, and punctuation
• Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive hand movements
• Ability to listen carefully and understand complex courtroom conversations
• Patient, tactful, and courteous communication style
• Ability to work under deadline pressure and manage shifting workloads
• Punctuality and reliability
Experience Required
One year of experience working as a certified court reporter in a courtroom setting, plus current state certification as a Certified Shorthand Reporter.
