About the Role
You will support a communications team as a Social Media Copywriter, producing polished, on-brand social media copy across multiple platforms. This role focuses on writing captions for video content, identifying short clips from long-form videos for publication, and drafting posts that promote organizational initiatives, events, and media coverage.
You’ll work across social platforms including X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. You may also contribute to the organization’s newsletter and participate in voice-development exercises with the communications team. This is a fully remote position with flexible working hours, though you’ll be expected to be available during core hours (10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. ET) for edits, calls, and consultations.
Responsibilities:
• Write social media captions for video content across multiple platforms, aligned with brand voice and content calendars
• Review long-form video content to identify short clips suitable for social media
• Draft social media posts promoting earned media coverage, events, and initiatives
• Contribute copy to newsletters as needed
• Participate in voice-development exercises to help refine brand voice
• Ensure all copy adheres to AP style and brand guidelines
• Coordinate with your manager on priorities, deadlines, and revisions
• Perform other related duties as needed
Skills/background needed:
• 4+ years of professional copywriting experience, ideally including social media copy
• A strong portfolio demonstrating versatility across different organizational voices
• Proven track record of producing clean, publication-ready copy that requires minimal editing
• Excellent command of AP style and major style guides
• Working knowledge of U.S. politics at federal and/or state level
• Self-directed and highly organized; able to manage your own workload and meet deadlines
• Proactive communicator
• Experience with brand or voice development is a plus
