About the Role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Acquisitions Editor to join our publishing team. In this role, you’ll help identify, evaluate, and develop academic manuscripts for publication. You’ll work with scholars and authors, review proposals, manage projects through the publishing process, and collaborate with editorial, design, production, and marketing teams. What You’ll Do
Acquisitions
• Identify and evaluate manuscript proposals for quality, originality, and fit
• Build relationships with scholars and authors to discover new publishing opportunities
• Review and analyse emerging trends in publishing and scholarship
• Prepare financial and content analysis for new projects
• Contribute ideas for new book series and product lines
Product Development
• Oversee the development process for assigned projects
• Work with editorial, design, production, sales, and marketing teams
• Develop positioning and marketing strategies
• Participate in cover design and product packaging decisions
• Help refresh and repackage existing titles for new audiences
Project Management
• Communicate with authors about deadlines, requirements, and payments
• Manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously
• Track manuscript progress through each stage of production
• Alert team leads to any scheduling or delivery concerns
• Support content editing and product descriptions as needed
Skills and Background Needed
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in English, business, marketing, or a related field
• Strong interest in academic publishing or scholarly communication
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PDF software
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Strong writing and communication abilities
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Self-motivated with strong initiative and independent work ethic
• Diplomatic approach to negotiations and relationship-building
• Willingness to travel occasionally to meet with authors or attend industry events
• Fast reader with attention to detail
