Role: Communications Specialist
About the role:
You’ll provide writing and content support across multiple platforms, including social media, digital channels, and print communications. This position is perfect for someone detail-oriented, organised, and excited to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. You’ll collaborate with internal and external teams to develop and execute communications strategies across various formats.
What you’ll do:
- Write and design content for social media, blogs, news releases, articles, and web copy
- Create and distribute newsletters and digital communications to build awareness of programmes, events, and initiatives
- Post and manage content across social media platforms and websites
- Assist with social media and media monitoring activities
- Produce support materials including photographs, press kits, and social media assets (basic photography and video editing experience is a plus, but not required)
- Help coordinate news conferences, media events, and special promotions
- Support media relations and research activities
- Write correspondence to donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders
- Work with team members to ensure project strategies are delivered on time
- Develop clear, concise written and multimedia communications for both internal and external audiences
- Assist with event planning, coordination, and execution, including promotional material development and on-site support
- Measure and analyse the success of communications using defined metrics
- Attend team meetings, training sessions, and participate in professional development
Skills/background needed:
You should have (or be working towards) a degree in communications, digital media, marketing, advertising, or a related field, or 3-5 years of combined experience in these areas. However, strong motivation and willingness to learn are more important than having every skill on day one.
Essential capabilities include:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Working knowledge of social media platforms
- Basic graphic design knowledge
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Attention to detail and organisational skills
- Comfort with computer software and digital tools
Physical requirements:
This role requires the ability to regularly stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle materials, reach with arms, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see clearly. You may need to lift and move items up to 25 lbs occasionally. You should be able to distinguish colours and observe areas within your visual field.
Additional requirements:
A valid driver’s license with current insurance and a positive driving record are required, as this position involves occasional travel throughout the region to attend and support events. Background clearance is required annually.
Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.
