About the Role:
We’re looking for a Communications Writer to develop clear, compelling messaging and content that tells the story of our organization’s impact. You’ll work across multiple initiatives to translate complex concepts into engaging narratives that resonate with diverse audiences including stakeholders, media, and community partners.
This is a fully remote position with flexibility to work from home, though occasional in-person collaboration may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
Storytelling, Messaging and Content Creation (35%)
• Develop and maintain clear messaging that connects organizational mission, strategy, and real-world impact across multiple programme areas
• Create compelling narratives that help external audiences understand how our work drives positive change and strengthens communities
• Translate complex financial and policy concepts into clear, accessible language suited to different audiences
• Identify and develop impactful stories that demonstrate real-world outcomes through the voices of community members and stakeholders
• Write and edit blog posts, articles, speeches, and thought leadership content
• Produce communications materials including annual reports, email campaigns, public statements, and other public-facing content
• Develop communications strategies that support advocacy, campaigns, and policy engagement
Communications Strategy, Brand & Digital Platforms (30%)
• Help develop and refine organizational communications strategy and content priorities
• Manage digital and print storytelling platforms including website, newsletters, and social media channels
• Edit publications to ensure consistent tone, messaging, and brand voice
• Strengthen brand visibility and positioning among key audiences
• Monitor communications performance and recommend strategies to increase reach and engagement
Leadership Support (15%)
• Support leadership in articulating organizational priorities and impact
• Provide strategic communications guidance on messaging and positioning
• Prepare leaders for media interviews, speaking opportunities, and public appearances
Team Collaboration (15%)
• Work with internal teams to ensure communications support organizational goals
• Partner with colleagues across departments on integrated communications initiatives
• Contribute to team culture and internal communication efforts
Other Duties (5%)
• Support organizational initiatives and cross-functional projects as needed
Skills & Background Needed:
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, Journalism, Marketing, or related field preferred
• 5–8 years of progressive experience in communications, journalism, public affairs, or related fields with demonstrated success in strategic communications and advocacy
• Experience developing organizational messaging frameworks and leading narrative strategies across multiple departments or initiatives
• Prior experience in community development, nonprofit organisations, philanthropy, or public policy strongly preferred
• Staff management experience supervising professional staff preferred
• Exceptional writing, editing, storytelling, and verbal communication skills
• Strong ability to translate complex financial and policy concepts into clear narratives for diverse audiences
• Skilled in public relations, thought leadership, storytelling, media relations, and digital communications
• Strong relationship-building skills and ability to partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, content management systems, and design tools such as Canva
• Formal media training a plus
