Editorial Assistant – Children’s Publishing (Entry Level)

Overview:

We are seeking an Editorial Assistant to provide administrative and editorial support to our children’s publishing division. You’ll work alongside passionate editors dedicated to bringing diverse stories and voices to life through picture books, graphic novels, middle grade, and young adult titles.

This is an entry-level role perfect for someone with a genuine passion for children’s books and a desire to learn the publishing business from the ground up. You’ll gain hands-on experience across all stages of book development, from acquisitions to production.

Responsibilities:

• Provide administrative and editorial support, including coordinating meetings, managing title data, scheduling, and processing routine paperwork

• Manage deadlines and schedules for the team, completing assigned tasks on time and anticipating routine needs

• Assist with editorial feedback on projects in development and help prepare acquisition materials, including sales research and financial analysis

• Maintain author files, review agreements and records, and assist with contractual administration

• Draft and update copy for book titles, including descriptions and marketing materials; maintain metadata and conduct positioning research

• Review production stages of books and maintain communication across departments to meet deadlines

• Attend departmental and team meetings, contribute ideas and research, and maintain records of projects and status

• Maintain social media accounts with engaging posts and stories

Skills/background needed:

• College degree or 1+ year of equivalent work experience

• Prior relevant experience such as bookselling, internships, or coursework in publishing or related fields (preferred but not required)

• Genuine passion for children’s books and interest in learning the publishing business

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and across departments

• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

• Basic familiarity with social media platforms

• Self-motivated, problem-solving mindset with flexibility and patience

Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.

Contract length: Full-time, permanent position.

Location: On-site in New York, with a hybrid work arrangement.
