Editorial Assistant – Romance Publishing (Remote)

We’re looking for an Editorial Assistant to help shape compelling romance stories and support our publishing team. If you’re passionate about romance fiction and eager to grow in the publishing industry, this is a great opportunity to work with authors, evaluate manuscripts, and develop projects from acquisition through publication.

In this role you will assist with acquiring, editing, and managing romance titles while providing essential editorial and publishing support to senior staff. This is a hands-on position for someone who is organised, detail-oriented, and ready to build strong relationships with authors and agents. You’ll evaluate submissions, help develop projects, collaborate across departments, and support senior editors with precision and initiative. If you’re an engaged romance reader with commercial instincts and a genuine passion for the genre, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do:

Help identify, evaluate, and organise manuscripts in priority categories and areas of opportunity.

Monitor the romance marketplace, reader trends, and competitive titles to identify acquisition opportunities.

Assist with editorial reads, developmental feedback, and manuscript assessments under guidance from senior editors.

Build and maintain positive relationships with author and agent partners through clear, professional communication.

Collaborate with marketing, publicity, sales, and design teams to position titles effectively for their intended audience.

Maintain accurate editorial schedules and act as a proactive point of contact for authors, agents, and internal stakeholders to keep projects moving on schedule.

Support senior editors with editorial preparation, launch materials, acquisitions materials, and other high-priority projects as assigned.

Manage general editorial and administrative responsibilities including correspondence, copyediting and proofreading corrections, and other tasks that support a successful publishing programme.

What You Bring:

Experience in publishing or editorial work is valued, but not required—we provide full training for the right candidate.

A strong interest in or passion for adult romance fiction, with familiarity of popular romance tropes, trends, and the community.

Initiative, curiosity, and a self-starter mindset. You’re eager to learn what’s next in book and product development.

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. You can manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and keep short- and long-term work on track.

Clear communication skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.

Willingness to learn and grow. We value curiosity, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude toward supporting a dynamic team.

About This Role:

Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.

Contract length: Full-time, permanent position.
