We are seeking a detail-oriented Grant Writer to help secure funding through compelling proposal development and grant management. In this role, you will research funding opportunities, craft persuasive grant proposals, and manage the grant submission process from start to finish. Your writing and organizational skills will help secure vital funding from foundations, government agencies, and other sources.
This is a flexible contract position ideal for writers passionate about nonprofit work, fundraising, and community development. You will work from home with the flexibility to manage your own schedule.
Contract hours: Variable, typically ranging from flexible part-time engagement up to 20 hours per week depending on project needs. You will be engaged as an independent contractor and are responsible for your own business setup, licensing, and equipment.
Key responsibilities include:
Grant Research and Identification
Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with organizational priorities and funding needs. Develop grant strategy in collaboration with leadership. Present recommended opportunities for consideration before applications begin.
Development and Submission
Prepare complete, accurate, and compelling grant applications including narratives, supporting documentation, budgets, and required materials. Submit approved applications by established deadlines. Maintain a grant calendar tracking opportunities, deadlines, awards, reporting requirements, and key dates.
Partner Coordination
Identify and engage community or program partners during planning and grant development. Coordinate with partners to obtain required information, commitments, letters of support, budgets, data, and application materials. Set internal deadlines to allow sufficient review and approval time before submission.
Training and Communication
Attend grant-related training or technical assistance sessions as needed. Provide presentations and grant-related information to leadership as requested. Maintain regular communication regarding opportunities, deadlines, submissions, awards, and reporting requirements.
Skills/background needed: Proven experience writing grant proposals for nonprofit or community organizations. Strong understanding of grant funding regulations and contract management. Excellent research skills to identify funding opportunities across government agencies and foundations. Demonstrated ability to craft persuasive proposals with compelling storytelling. Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously. Familiarity with nonprofit operations and fundraising strategies is desirable.
