Roles: Grant Writer (Volunteer)
Contract length: Ongoing volunteer position
Location: Fully remote
Time commitment: Approximately 15–20 hours per month, with flexibility based on deadlines and your availability
About the role:
A nonprofit organization is seeking a volunteer grant writer to help identify and pursue funding opportunities from private and family foundations. You’ll work alongside the development team to customize grant proposals and strengthen foundation funding efforts.
This is not a role where you’ll start from scratch. The organization has already developed organizational materials, program narratives, and foundational grant content. Your job is to help turn those resources into strong, customized proposals for qualified funding opportunities.
What you’ll do:
- Research private and family foundation grant opportunities
- Review funder guidelines and determine organizational alignment
- Prepare letters of inquiry, grant applications, and proposals
- Customize existing narratives to address individual funder priorities
- Gather information needed for applications
- Maintain accurate records of submissions, deadlines, and follow-up requirements
- Assist with grant reports and stewardship when needed
- Work collaboratively with leadership to ensure proposals accurately represent the organization and its impact
Skills/background needed:
You are a strong writer who can communicate both the mission and the practical case for philanthropic investment. Grant writing or nonprofit development experience is preferred, but we would also consider an experienced professional writer with a willingness to learn foundation grant writing. No prior experience is required—full training and guidance will be provided.
