About the Role
We are looking for a Commissioning Editor to join our Publishing team. You will help attract high-quality content into key open-access journals by creating topic collections and working with academic researchers and editors.
This is a full-time, fully remote role. You’ll work with editorial board members, data analysts, and researchers to identify promising topics for journal collections. You’ll also reach out to active researchers in your field and invite them to lead or contribute to these collections—a chance to build meaningful relationships across the academic community.
What You’ll Do
• Identify and recommend collection topics for journals, using data and market research to guide your choices
• Build and maintain relationships with editorial boards, researchers, and guest editors
• Reach out to leading researchers and invite them to serve as guest editors or contributors
• Work with cross-functional teams including marketing, editorial, and analytics to develop collection strategies
• Use data analysis to track market trends and inform commissioning decisions
• Conduct research on competitor offerings and identify growth opportunities
• Train and support guest editors on editorial standards and publishing processes
• Manage collections from conception to publication, meeting targets and timelines
• Collaborate with journal teams to ensure collections align with overall journal strategy
Skills/background needed: Bachelor’s degree (STEM preferred), 3–4 years of experience in academic publishing or scientific research, familiarity with how research journals work, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, strong interpersonal skills, creative thinking, comfort working with data and basic analysis, understanding of research ethics.
