We are hiring a full-time reporter to cover community news and report on current events affecting diverse audiences. This role will focus on in-depth reporting that informs and empowers communities through accurate, culturally relevant storytelling. You’ll cover local news, cultural events, and current issues, and as a key addition to our newsroom, you’ll have the opportunity to shape our news coverage and expand our impact.
This is an in-person position based at our local workplace. You’ll work flexible hours as needed to cover breaking news, community events, and live reporting assignments.
About the Role
We’re looking for someone passionate about community-centred reporting and storytelling. No prior professional journalism experience is required—we provide full training and support to help you succeed.
What You’ll Do
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Research, write, and produce news articles and feature stories
- Conduct interviews with community members, leaders, and experts
- Translate and adapt content for different audiences as needed
- Report live and appear on public affairs programmes and video content
- Work with editors and multimedia teams to create engaging stories
- Stay informed on local, national, and international news relevant to your community
- Cover live events, breaking news, and community issues in the field
- Represent the newsroom professionally at community events and assignments
Skills/background needed:
You should have:
- A degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Experience in journalism, media, or content creation (or willingness to learn on the job)
- Ability to work on camera for video reports
- Comfort speaking on microphone for news reports and interviews
- Familiarity with journalism ethics and reporting best practices
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Bilingual skills are a plus
