We’re looking for an entry-level news reporter to join our team on a full-time basis. You’ll cover breaking news and community stories, balancing daily reporting with investigative work. This role welcomes candidates with strong writing skills, curiosity, and the ability to work under deadline pressure.
What you will do:
Report accurately and quickly, keeping readers informed of news as it develops
Be transparent about your information sources and fact-check thoroughly before publication
Generate story ideas creatively and find compelling ways to present information across different formats
Prioritise digital-first reporting to maximise audience engagement across our website and platforms
Write clear, accurate content with strong grammar, punctuation and clarity
Verify facts, conduct background research and confirm sources before stories go live
Build and maintain source relationships over time
Engage audiences on social media across multiple platforms
What you will bring:
A degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent real-world experience
1–3 years of experience at a news outlet preferred, though candidates with a strong portfolio or relevant coursework are welcome to apply
Solid writing and reporting skills with experience creating content for news platforms
Familiarity with social media and digital storytelling
The ability to work calmly under deadline pressure and manage multiple tasks
Professional-level grammar, spelling and punctuation
Understanding of how news works across different platforms: web, mobile and print

You must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, as this role involves occasional driving for assignments and meetings.
