We’re looking for a community-minded Part-Time Local News Writer to help cover the people, events and local government in your area.
Responsibilities
Cover city councils, school boards, county supervisors and other public meetings. Attend community events, festivals and other local activities. Write engaging, accurate news stories for both print and digital publication. Take photos at community events, local government meetings and other newsworthy happenings. Interview local residents, community leaders and elected officials. Meet deadlines while producing timely, accurate local news coverage.
Skills/background needed
Strong communication and writing skills. Comfortable talking with people and asking questions. Organized and able to work independently. Reliable transportation to attend meetings and events. Journalism or newspaper experience is a plus, but not required—we provide full training and mentorship to the right person.
