We’re seeking a Proposal Writing Consultant to support our growing portfolio of opportunities. This freelance, remote role offers flexibility while working on meaningful, deadline-driven projects that create real impact.
You’ll work across the full proposal lifecycle—from analyzing requirements and shaping strategy to writing, editing, and finalizing content. This role suits someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, communicates clearly and persuasively, and welcomes collaborative feedback while delivering high-quality work under pressure.
Workload will fluctuate based on active project volume and often requires meeting tight deadlines with quick turnarounds. Proposal efforts will focus on communications, event management, and professional services across various sectors.
What you’ll do:
- Analyze solicitation documents and evaluation criteria to shape content strategy
- Participate in kickoff and strategy sessions to align key themes and assignments
- Collaborate with proposal managers and subject matter experts to gather input and clarify concepts
- Develop original, tailored content for technical, management, staffing, and past performance sections
- Ensure a cohesive voice and consistent messaging across content developed by multiple writers
- Customize template materials to align with requirements, tone, and structure
- Revise content in response to feedback, ensuring compliance and clarity
- Edit and proofread for accuracy, consistency, and flow
- Manage version control and deliver work on time
- Assist with submission logistics when needed
Skills/background needed:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience writing proposals for government opportunities
- Proven ability to produce compliant, persuasive content under pressure
- Strong writing, editing, and critical thinking skills
- Understanding of government procurement processes and terminology
- Ability to synthesize input into clear, concise narratives
- Comfortable working collaboratively in a virtual team environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and PDF editing tools
- Knowledge of structured proposal processes and review cycles (a plus)
- Prior experience in proposal coordination or capture planning (a plus)
