Senior Writer/Editor – Remote

Overview:Are you an experienced storyteller and editorial professional who thrives on creating meaningful content with broad reach? We’re seeking a Senior Writer/Editor to help shape our signature publications. This position will contribute to our communications team as a coeditor of a quarterly alumni magazine that reaches hundreds of thousands of readers worldwide through print and digital formats.

The role also includes editing our awards publication, alongside other storytelling work. You’ll collaborate with colleagues and freelancers to produce compelling stories that celebrate people, ideas, and impact. This is a hybrid position with the flexibility to work from home, requiring at least two days per week on-site.

What You’ll Do:

Magazine Production:
– Collaborate with internal teams to produce our quarterly alumni magazine
– Partner closely with design teams to plan and execute each issue
– Hire and manage freelance writers; source photography and visuals
– Lead strategy for the magazine’s digital channels
– Think through storytelling as a multimedia effort, working with video and social media producers to create engaging content
– Develop digital content distribution strategies across multiple platforms
– Apply best practices in search engine optimization to maximize online readership
– Serve as the main point of contact with the magazine printer to ensure quality and timely delivery
– Manage production timelines and budgets
– Share story ideas and performance metrics with leadership

Awards Publication:
– Work with the awards team to develop stories about recipients
– Coordinate with freelance writers and photographers
– Lead production of the awards publication
– Support marketing efforts for the awards programme as needed

Additional Responsibilities:
– Write articles for our magazine and other publications
– Maintain records for featured individuals and contributors
– Perform other duties as assigned

Skills/background needed:– Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, or a related field- 7+ years of professional experience in journalism, writing, publishing, or communications- Strong knowledge of magazine publishing- Experience with multimedia and digital publishing, plus social media content development- Proven experience working collaboratively with writers and designers- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Zoom, and similar tools- Familiarity with InDesign and the Adobe Creative Suite- Experience with WordPress and marketing platforms- Comfort with Microsoft Office and Mac operating systems- Experience in higher education (preferred)- Track record hiring and managing freelancers (preferred)- Strong interviewing and communication skills- Understanding of marketing and journalism principles- Passion for telling stories about diverse communities

Rate:Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.
