Position Summary
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Social Media Manager to help build and grow our organization’s social media presence. This role involves telling our story through engaging, creative content that showcases our community, programs, accomplishments, and opportunities. You’ll manage our social media accounts, create original content across photos, videos, graphics, and writing, and build meaningful engagement with our community.
This position is perfect for someone who understands what makes content engaging, can spot a great story, and enjoys creating content that highlights the people and experiences that make our organization special.
What You’ll Be Doing
Social Media Management
Manage official social media accounts and maintain a daily social media presence. Create, schedule, publish, and monitor content across multiple social media platforms. Monitor comments, messages, and community engagement, responding to routine interactions and escalating questions as needed. Keep up with social media trends and platform changes, identifying ways to incorporate current formats and behaviors into your content strategy.
Content Creation & Storytelling
Find and develop engaging stories from across the organization, highlighting achievements, programs, events, and community partnerships. Write compelling captions and social media copy tailored for different platforms and audiences. Build relationships with team members to create a steady flow of story ideas and content opportunities. Conduct interviews with students, employees, families, and partners to create authentic, engaging stories. Develop recurring content series and features that strengthen our online presence.
Photography & Video
Capture high-quality photos and videos at events and throughout our organization. Produce short-form video content including reels and other social-first video formats. Edit photos and videos for social media publication. Develop creative concepts for visual content and maintain an organized digital library of all assets. Coordinate with team members when additional production support is needed.
Graphic Design & Visual Content
Create professional graphics and visual content for our social media accounts using tools like Canva. Develop social media graphics for events, recognitions, programs, and celebrations. Create templates and recurring visual elements that strengthen our brand identity. Adapt content and graphics appropriately for different platforms and formats, ensuring everything follows our brand standards.
Campaigns & Special Projects
Develop and execute social media campaigns that support organizational priorities, programs, events, and initiatives. Create coverage plans for major events and activities. Collaborate with different departments to develop creative social media approaches for programs and initiatives. Support organizational branding and storytelling projects through strategic social media content.
Analytics & Growth
Monitor reach, engagement, audience growth, and video performance across all social media platforms. Use analytics to identify what content resonates with your audience and where you can improve. Evaluate audience preferences and adjust your content strategy accordingly. Establish growth goals and provide regular reports on social media performance and trends. Research emerging platforms and tools that could strengthen our presence.
Additional Responsibilities
Support team members managing their own social media accounts by sharing best practices, providing guidance, and developing resources. Manage multiple projects, events, and content deadlines simultaneously. Attend occasional events outside standard working hours to capture and publish content. Assist with organizational events and special projects as needed. Maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information, and follow all policies related to privacy, permissions, and appropriate content.
Skills/background needed
Required:
Experience managing professional social media accounts. Demonstrated ability to create engaging social media content. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Experience with photography, video production, and editing short-form video. Experience creating graphics and visual content. Good understanding of major social media platforms, current trends, and best practices. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across an organization. Sound professional judgment when representing the organization online.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, digital media, graphic design, or related field. Experience managing social media for a large organization or multiple accounts. Experience with Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud. Experience with professional photography and videography equipment. Experience with social media management and analytics tools. Experience developing and executing social media campaigns. Bilingual English and Spanish skills.
