We’re looking for an enthusiastic writer to cover sports news, events, and stories. This is a great opportunity to develop your journalism skills while working on a variety of assignments.
About the role:
You’ll write sports features, event coverage, and related news content. You’ll also help coordinate digital and print sections, develop sources, and manage deadlines. Because this is a small newsroom, you may occasionally contribute to general news coverage as well. Hours are flexible but include some evening and weekend work.
What you’ll do:
- Write sports features, breaking news coverage and event reporting
- Develop and maintain sources in the sports community
- Coordinate sports sections across digital and print platforms
- Manage special sports projects and assignments
- Meet editorial deadlines and support other writers
- Contribute to general assignment reporting as needed
Skills/background needed:
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Familiarity with AP style (we’ll train if needed)
- Interest in sports and ability to engage with athletes and community figures
- College degree preferred, but strong writing samples are what matter most
- Prior journalism or sports writing experience is helpful but not required
