Roles: General Assignment Reporter/Staff Writer

We are looking for an enthusiastic reporter ready to launch a career in news and community journalism. If you’re excited about uncovering local stories and connecting with your community, this role is for you.
This position offers daily news coverage of your local area, including business developments, local politics, and human interest stories. You’ll work across multiple platforms, telling stories through traditional articles, photos, video, and digital channels.
What you’ll do:
• Report on local news and community events throughout the week
• Conduct interviews and gather information from community sources
• Write clear, organized news articles and features on deadline
• Contribute to social media coverage and digital storytelling
• Work flexible schedules including weeknight and weekend assignments
• Collaborate with editors and accept feedback to improve your work
Skills/background needed:
• Strong writing ability with keen attention to detail
• Excellent interviewing and note-taking skills
• Ability to work under deadline pressure with flexibility
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office
• Own reliable transportation
• Genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for telling community stories
Preferred (but not required):
• Experience with long-form or in-depth reporting
• Social media posting and content management experience
• Photography, video, or graphic design skills
• Familiarity with journalism style standards
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
