Content Acquisitions Editor – Publishing (Entry Level)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to join our publishing team as a Content Acquisitions Editor. This is a hybrid role that combines office-based and work-from-home flexibility, giving you the best of both worlds as you launch your career in academic publishing.

About the Role

As a Content Acquisitions Editor, you will play a vital part in identifying, evaluating, and developing high-quality manuscript proposals for publication. You’ll work collaboratively with authors, scholars, and internal teams to bring important research to print. This role offers excellent exposure to every stage of the publishing process—from initial concept through final production.

What You’ll Do

Content Acquisition & Development
• Identify and evaluate manuscript proposals for publication quality, originality, and relevance
• Build relationships with authors and subject matter experts to discover new project opportunities
• Review emerging trends in publishing and scholarship to inform content selection
• Prepare analysis and recommendations for new projects
• Contribute ideas for new book series and product concepts

Project Management
• Communicate with authors about deadlines, manuscript requirements, and timelines
• Coordinate with editorial, design, and production teams to keep projects on schedule
• Oversee the development of assigned titles from acquisition through publication
• Maintain organized records and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Support the creation of sales and marketing materials

Collaboration & Communication
• Work closely with editorial and production teams to deliver high-quality content
• Provide feedback on manuscript development and positioning
• Alert leadership to any scheduling or production challenges
• Foster positive working relationships with authors and internal stakeholders

Skills/Background Needed

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in English, communications, marketing, business, or a related field
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent organizational ability; comfortable managing multiple deadlines and priorities
• Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team
• Strong people skills and diplomatic approach to collaboration
• Fast reader with strong attention to detail
• Willingness to learn the publishing industry from the ground up
• Occasional travel may be required to meet with authors or attend industry events
