We’re looking for an Editorial Assistant to provide editorial and administrative support to senior leadership in a publishing environment. You’ll work with leading voices and resources across multiple publishing categories.
About the role:
In this on-site position, you will support publishing operations and editorial management, including:
• Assist with editorial management of author relationships, manuscript acquisitions, and special projects
• Work closely with authors and literary agents throughout the publishing lifecycle (manuscript development, payments, sales information)
• Draft, edit, and maintain cover briefs, fact sheets, catalog copy, and descriptive content
• Read, evaluate, and report on manuscripts and proposals submitted for publication
• Produce reports using publishing systems, including schedules, sales reports, and performance tracking
• Support the collection and organization of data for acquisitions, budgeting, and author reporting
• Guide projects through the editorial and production phases, collaborating with multiple teams
• Organize and distribute materials for internal meetings and publishing cycle events
• Attend and participate in editorial, project development, and sales meetings
• Manage administrative support for senior leadership, including scheduling, travel coordination, and expense reports
• Handle office operations including mail, vendor coordination, supply ordering, and meeting logistics
• Coordinate planning meetings and seasonal events, including timelines, materials, and follow-ups
• Draft correspondence to internal and external stakeholders
Skills/background needed:
• Genuine interest in books and publishing, especially in nonfiction
• 1–2 years of publishing experience, or equivalent administrative experience supporting senior management
• Excellent writing and editing skills; able to evaluate projects for commercial potential
• Ability to manage large amounts of information and data
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
• Comfortable working with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe, Canva, and databases
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively while maintaining attention to detail
• Comfortable interacting with diverse teams including staff, management, authors, agents, and media
• Adaptable to changing needs in a fast-paced, evolving industry
• Problem solver with initiative and a collaborative mindset
